Off-road roots run deep in the south of France. With access to the region's best trails, it's unsurprising the region's best riders also hail from the French Riviera. Yannick Pontal is no stranger to being the best.
Yannick has competed in cyclocross, cross-country, and downhill racing, but enduro is where he found a home. Specifically E-Enduro.
Since the first ever E-EWS, Yannick has been taking the top step. In 2022, it wasn't just one race either. He landed the overall title, becoming the E-Enduro World Champion.
Hear about Yannick's career, in his own words, below.
Discover what makes the Trail Access Hardshell Yannick's outerlayer of choice.
I'm Yannick Pontal and I've been riding mountain bikes and racing for over 20 years.
In 2019, after taking part in many seasons of "classic" Enduro racing, I needed a new challenge. That's when I had the opportunity to discover e-bikes by joining an E-Enduro Team. I was able to discover and ride a lot more trails, it was more riding and more fun.
Thanks to this, I improved my physical and technical level. It was the start of a new adventure. The following year, I won the first ever E-EWS! I then turned professional in E-Enduro and joined the SRAM BLACKBOX Team in 2022, winning the overall E-EWS ranking.
Today I'm a SRAM Emtb Enduro athlete and I also work on the development and testing of emtb-specific products.
For me, ebikes bring many things to mountain biking. It makes cycling accessible to many people, and it's also a great social tool because it's now possible to share a ride with people of different physical levels. Last but not least, it's a great way to discover beautiful new places, because thanks to the emtb we can ride more.
