New for 2019, the Foundation is a pared back version of our Signature Bib Short.
We took the same great fit and comfort and sought where we could make the bib short more affordable without generally compromising quality. A new lightweight, recycled fabric gives balanced compression and an opaque finish. With the same bib straps, leg gripper and trims found on the Signature and a high-density chamois, these shorts provide excellent support in a slightly thinner form - perfect for shorter distances or the mid-week lunch ride. Also incorporated is the latest iteration of our pee-break functionality, the FlyFree. With all that packed in, the Foundation is a premium bib short at a not-so-premium price.
Fabric: 78% Recycled Polyamide / 22% Elastane
Made in: Italy
Caring for your cycling gear properly will extend its life and maintain its performance, fit and quality. It’s important to consider these instructions carefully. While we stand behind the quality of our apparel, not adhering to these instructions will void our warranty against manufacturing & defects.
We strongly recommend washing your new gear before wearing it. You’ll find that your apparel will soften, and fit & comfort will improve after washing - especially with bibs & shorts.
Machine wash cool, 86°F (30°C) with like colors: Cooler temps maintain better longevity for your apparel. Like colors, especially lights, will remain more vibrant when washed with like colors.
Use mild detergent. Do not bleach or dry clean: Strong detergents & bleach can break down the fibers and elastane in the garment, dramatically reducing its life.
Close all fastenings: this goes also for other garments mixed in with your cycling apparel. Velcro closures or clasps can catch on stitching or trim and damage your garments.
Lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry: Do not put your cycling apparel in the dryer. Even on low heat. Don’t do it. Heat can damage fabric, elastic and heat transfer logos very easily. Lycra (Elastane) is used throughout our garments to provide compression and support and is susceptible to damage from heat and can irreparably damage your apparel.
Velocio fit is designed for comfort and performance. Starting with a form-fit silhouette, we've developed our women's-specific patterns from the ground up to compliment a wide range of body types and riding styles. All of our apparel is tailored for on-bike fit to ensure optimal muscle support and range of motion while riding. You may find certain aspects of our garments to seem "off" while standing, yet once you start pedaling these points disappear.
Velocio bibs and shorts are made from highly compressive performance fabric for excellent support through an athletic fit. They will feel small when you first put them on and will often require washing and a few rides for them to "break in." We strongly believe in the benefits of compression - both in its performance benefits, as well as in its long-distance comfort - and we've designed all of our bibs with this in mind.
Our jersey fit is a slim form-fit cut designed to provide light compression and muscle support, exceptional comfort and a streamlined look. For 2019, we’ve made some adjustments to our sizing to allow for more flexibility in fit across a broader range of body types and preferences. Our larger sizes have be re-proportioned while maintaining a tailored look.
Chest - Start by placing a measuring tape around the largest part of your chest. The tape should be flat but not too snug.
Waist - Your natural waist lies between your bottom ribs and hip bones, close to the navel. To measure, breathe deeply, relax your stomach and lie the tape measure flat around your waist, allowing for a ¼ inch of slack.
Hip - Measured around the widest point of your hips.
Model measurements - Shown wearing size S jersey / M bib short.

These bibs were nothing short of exceptional quality, as expected from Velocio. I will admit however, my very first Velocio bib purchase was their highest end bib- the Luxe, and I now have a very high standard for chamois and bib quality. These Foundation Bib Shorts are wonderful, however you can really tell the lycra is not of as high a quality as the Luxe bibs, and even more so the chamois. In comparison to the Luxe, the chamois has less flex when riding due to it being one solid piece rather than three separate contact points that the Luxe Bibs have. I felt like the Foundation Bib was a bit scratchy on my skin also. I ride everyday, usually 2 hours minimum, and I started getting very uncomfortable after an hour in these bibs. So unfortunately I had to send them back, but I exchanged them for my favorite Luxe Bibs! (Which are heavenly). And I can't forget to add the Fly Free is the best thing since sliced bread. THANK YOU VELOCIO! Like who wants to strip down on the side of the road to use the bathroom when it's 45 degrees outside? Helloooo there are no bathrooms for hours when you're riding country farm roads.
Great bib, only thing missing is pockets! I'm normally between a M and L, and happy I ordered the L. As mentioned on the website, give them a try as they feel tight at first, but then are GREAT.
Like they said; premium bibs at a not so premium price!!
I was somewhat skeptical about the Fly-Free design at first. Over the past weekend, I rode a 62 mile charity ride and couldn't have been happier. Not only is the Fly-Free the most awesome thing ever - but the bibs are super comfortable and the chamois is perfect. Not too bulky but supportive.
This fit really great while on the bike, but walking around in them before or after a ride is like having a constant ******. I own plenty of bibs (I've been racing for years) and friends had said these were some of the most comfortable on the planet. I guess everyone is different or maybe it's just gonna take a few more washes before the chamois is less stiff to the point I feel like i have something stuck up my butt crack haha. I bought a small and it fits well otherwise and the *** functionality on these bibs are A++, I'm 5'4 130lbs with big legs.
