Using the latest and most advanced version of Polartec’s renowned Alpha insulation, by adding merino wool, the Alpha Merino Air jacket punches way above its weight in terms of warmth, breathability and performance. Alpha Wool is used as interior insulation on the sleeve, front and collar, while Pertex Quantum Air provides an ultralight wind and water resistant barrier to help trap heat while maintaining class-leading breathability. The back panel of the jacket is made from fleece-backed italian milled recycled polyester to aid in breathability and mobility.

Likely our most technical riding jacket ever, the Alpha Merino Air uses our proprietary 3D patterning and carefully engineered on-bike fit for a super streamlined fit and covering a wide range of temps and conditions.

"Velocio's Alpha Merino Air Jacket might just be the best winter jacket we have tried."

Sizing Guide

Our jerseys and bib shorts are intended to be form fit, providing compressive support, maximizing performance of the fabrics, and reducing fatigue and chafing. Due to the compressive nature of the fabrics, you will be able to fit into more than one size. Please use the charts below to help determine your optimum size:

  • Find your weight along the top of the table.
  • Look down the column to find your appropriate size.
  • Each size has a height range based on weight.
  • If you find that you are on the upper or lower end of height and weight for a given size, the garment will have more or less compression respectively.
  • Use the Dimensions Details chart to further dial in your fit.

The perfect jacket does exist…

I loved this jacket!! Wore on a overnight trip in NH and it was perfect paired with a simple long sleeve jersey. Kept me warm is 40 degree temps. On decente I would wear my wind vest bc the jacket is not very windproof. I tend to be very cold at start and warm up quickly. Even so this regulated temps well enough that I didn’t need to take it off. I purchased the xs and it was a good snug fit. 5’1 (105lbs)

Nice jacket but not for me

I purchased this in S and XS (I’m 5’3” 113), and the arms of the S were too long. The XS fit as it should. It is super soft and warm. While I waited for the times to arrive, I borrowed a friend’s XS for a ride in the low 40s + damp. I was hot going uphill and cold going down. So I think this would be best for a rolling ride with a windbreaker over for long downhills. Note that the front is short (shorter than my jersey which looked off) but I guess that way you don’t have bulk at the waist. Anyhow, high quality soft warm jacket, just not the one for me.

best jacket and customer service

I've worn this on a cold ride and AT skiing and it's fantastically warm for the weight. I like how the sleeves are slim at the wrist so it's easy to pull on gloves over the jacket. Also- Velocio customer service was amazing.

INCREDIBLY warm! I can finally ride in the cold!

To start off- I run very cold, and because of this, winter riding is usually a no-go for me. I got this jacket after hearing great reviews, and can't believe how warm it kept me, without needing to layer. I rode in 35 degree weather no problem, without even a mid-layer! I even got caught in the rain and the water resistance held up plenty long enough for me to get home. So happy with this jacket, and the fire red is a gorgeous and highly-visible color! So excited to be able to keep riding throughout the winter, and without needing to reduce my mobility in tons of layers. I can't recommend this enough!

The best!

This is simply the best winter cycling jacket I’ve tried. It’s crazy warm, with only a base layer underneath. The fit is also perfect and it is so lightweight. The only improvements I could imagine would be to add ‘pit zips’ for extra ventilation on climbs or on days when it’s over 40°, and to include a small zippered pocket for valuables.
