Men's CONCEPT Bib Short

29 reviews

When car makers release CONCEPT cars, more often than not, they are ideas. Best intentions towards a final design that compromises. The CONCEPT Bib Short is the evolution of our now much-beloved bib shorts, a race-ready design aimed at the highest levels of performance. This is what a pro rider would wear if they could buy their own bibs. With a new chamois developed exclusively for the CONCEPT bib shorts using several techniques, this pad is designed to “float” as its totally integrated into the patterning of the short, meaning fewer seams and chafe points, and a more fluid pedaling motion.

This new design means the chamois stays in place while you pedal, conforming to your body and matching your every move. From the outside, it's the cleanest and most streamlined bib short available on the market today and sets a new standard for what's possible for high performance cycling apparel.

In addition to the proprietary pad, new straps, leg grippers and an aero construction mixing fabrics with complimentary compression for the ultimate performing bib short.

The result is more than a pinnacle product, it’s a concept: there is a better way.

    • Two fabrics carefully positioned to maximize breathability and balance compression.
    • Minimal seams and laser cut ventilation
    • Microfiber leg gripper and aerated bib straps
    • Proprietary invisible chamois design provides unmatched performance and friction-free comfort
    • New race-fit patterning provides our most articulated fit
    • Large team-inspired reflective logos
  • Composition: 70% Polyamide / 30% Elastane
    Made in: Italy

  • Caring for your cycling gear properly will extend its life and maintain its performance, fit and quality. It’s important to consider these instructions carefully. While we stand behind the quality of our apparel, not adhering to these instructions will void our warranty against manufacturing & defects.

We strongly recommend washing your new gear before wearing it. You’ll find that your apparel will soften, and fit & comfort will improve after washing - especially with bibs & shorts.

Machine wash cool, 86°F (30°C) with like colors: Cooler temps maintain better longevity for your apparel. Like colors, especially lights, will remain more vibrant when washed with like colors.

Use mild detergent. Do not bleach or dry clean: Strong detergents & bleach can break down the fibers and elastane in the garment, dramatically reducing its life.

Close all fastenings: this goes also for other garments mixed in with your cycling apparel. Velcro closures or clasps can catch on stitching or trim and damage your garments.

Lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry: Do not put your cycling apparel in the dryer. Even on low heat. Don’t do it. Heat can damage fabric, elastic and heat transfer logos very easily. Lycra (Elastane) is used throughout our garments to provide compression and support and is susceptible to damage from heat and can irreparably damage your apparel.

  • What is the inseam length of your bib shorts?
As a general rule of thumb, all of our bib shorts are designed to be as close to the same length as possible. Different fabrics have different fits and elasticity so this is not always an exact science. As a baseline, however, our Women's bib shorts are 22cm (8.7") from the center crotch to the leg gripper in size M, with +/- 1.5cm (0.6") per size grading. Our Men's bib shorts are 25.5cm (10") in size M, with +/- 1.5cm (0.6") per size grading.

What is the main fit difference between bib short models?
All of our bib shorts are designed to fit consistently across the size range, meaning if you wear as size L in our Signature Bib Shorts, you will also likely find the size L to be the best fit in our other bib shorts. In terms of fit, the main difference is the amount of compression each bib short offers. LUXE is our most compressive, followed by CONCEPT. We hear often that these two look quite small and take a bit of effort to get on - trust us when we say it's effort well spent. Signature is what we'd call medium compression - still higher than most other brands, but not as compressive as the two mentioned above. Foundation is very similar to Signature. And Ultralight is the least compressive, primarily due to the ultra light-weight fabric.

My bibs feel super tight when I try them on for the first time! Help?!
All of our bibs are designed for optimal fit on the bike. When trying-on or wearing your bibs for the first time, try them on the bike (or mimicking on the bike posture) to feel an ideal approximation of fit. Different parts of the bibs will fit and feel more comfortable in the riding position vs. standing upright. Also, all of our bib shorts will “break-in” after a few rides and washes, conforming to the shape of the rider. Hence, we offer our 30-Day Signature Guarantee for a complete test. The best bibs don’t feel perfect standing in front of a mirror - the design makes pedaling better.

Are the chamois the same in all your bib shorts?
We’ve developed several chamois for our line that are proprietary to Velocio. These have been developed over years of testing and feedback to be the most comfortable and supportive available for any distance or type of riding. Our Signature chamois has been refined since our launch and the latest iteration is a dual-density pad, incorporating an anti-vibration super high density layer with a supportive high density layer to create all-day comfort and support. It’s available in anatomic specific versions in our LUXE, Signature, and Ultralight bib shorts. The CONCEPT bib shorts have a proprietary fully-integrated chamois. This innovative design is comprised of a multi-density padding that is attached to the short by a highly elastic liner, creating a floating pad that conforms to every movement with minimal bulk and allows for a uniquely free pedaling motion. Lastly, the Foundation bib short uses a pared back version of our Signature pad with a single high-density foam and recycled top fabric, creating a great mid-distance pad with medium support and slimmer form factor. Love 'Em or Hate "Em??

I was attracted to the Concept bib shorts due to the “low friction” material over the chamois pad as I have some some serious chafing going on. I’m not sure that it is the answer. At times it’s great. But at other times, I really feel the material digging into my raw skin. I like the thick pad most for mountain bike riding, but also find that the Concept bib shorts get hung up on the front of the saddle at times. I do have a pair of Signature bibs and the Concepts are a big step-up in comfort over the Signatures. I’ve thought about exchanging the Concepts for a pair of Luxe bibs but have ultimately decided to keep the concepts.

My thoughts after 1000 miles in the saddle

I waited until I had 1000 miles of "seat time" in Velocio bibs so I could give a more informed review. About me: I average 900mi/month of road bike time, I'm 5'7" 145 lbs and the small bibs fit like a glove. I've been riding Rapha's top of the line bibs for the past several seasons so I will use them as a comparison. The fit, finish and material on both Rapha and Velocio are excellent. I would give Rapha a slight nod for a nicer grade of lycra and international stitching but Velocio seems more durable. I have had issues with Rapha's stitching coming loose after 8-10 months of wear and I don't anticipate this being an issue with the Velocio bibs due to their construction techniques. Both brands offer excellent compression. I have seen other reviewers complaining about them being tight but great bibs are supposed to fit snug. The Velocio bibs really shine after 2 hours in the saddle when the superiority of their chamois comes through. Bottom line, the edge goes to Velocio for durability and an excellent all day chamois.

    Almost Perfect

The Good: Best chamois I've ever felt. Seriously, first ride in these was 5 hours and not a bit of discomfort on my under carriage. I came out of Assos and into these, and these blow their top of the line "floating" chamois out of the water. The compressive fabric on the font of the shorts and the leg grippers are great. Once the leg grippers are in the right spot they're not going anywhere. The front fabric is very supportive! The Bad: The fabric on the back of the shorts is lux but it's very clingy. It will cling to your skin and become a tug point that becomes uncomfortable. I feel like I had to pull at the back of these shorts regularly to get them back into position. If you wore these during a crit it wouldn't be an issue, but for a long ride where you get on or off the bike it becomes an issue. As a result, I wouldn't recommend these at all for cross. The sides of the bib bottoms come up very high which make these bibs run hotter than others. The front of the bibs (where your junk goes) is very compressive like the legs and comes up high as well. Nice not to have loose bib fronts (this is an issue with Assos) but it doesn't leave much room for the your tender bits. Not a deal breaker but prepare for a tight situation. Got a little chaffing as a result (but again this was from a 5 hour ride in brand new bibs.) Minimal seams but the seams in the back will begin to rub where your butt meets your leg after awhile causing a little bit of chaffing. This could be totally dependent on your anatomy though, but with me it's a chafe spot. Runs a tad bit small compared to other bibs I've had. Definitely race fit. I'm 5'7'' and 145lbs and bought size medium.

I’m 6’0 208lbs athletic build 42in. Chest and 33in waist. These shorts fit me like a glove and are unbelievably comfortable. From the chamois to the material, I’ve tried lots of bibs (Assos, cuore, capo, castelli) just to name a few in their top end models. I must say, they don’t come close!!! The comfort on 70-100 mile rides is mind blowing! It’s almost like I’m not sitting on a saddle at all, but a nice comfy pillow. I can’t say enough good things about these shorts!!! My best pair
