Totally reimagined for 2019, the new Softshell jacket draws on over 5 years of development, refinement and testing to create a winter jacket versatile enough to meet the needs of the most demanding cyclist and cover a broad range of temps and conditions. We started with an entirely new pattern and fit, working to balance a trim, flap-free fit, with room to layer and full mobility and comfort.
We drew inspiration from touring motorcycle jackets and their shaped sleeves, articulated shoulders/chest and curved back. The result is a silhouette that effortlessly fits in the riding position.
We partnered with eVent, a leader in high performance membranes, to develop our proprietary three-layer softshell, incorporating their Direct Vent stretch membrane with Primaloft performance yarn backer and durable stretch woven and DWR treated face. The result is a truly breathable softshell that has the ability to manage moisture and keep the internal climate warm, but dry -- a critical equation for long winter miles. Designed for temperatures from freezing to 50F and capable of warding off all but the most torrential downpours, thanks to it’s 10K waterproof membrane, it’s a one-jacket solution to winter riding. And, by combining the Softshell with our Alpha Long sleeve, the two-piece system easily covers the bravest of souls comfortably down to the single digits (without the risk of breaking a sweat).
Caring for your cycling gear properly will extend its life and maintain its performance, fit and quality. It’s important to consider these instructions carefully. While we stand behind the quality of our apparel, not adhering to these instructions will void our warranty against manufacturing & defects.
We strongly recommend washing your new gear before wearing it. You’ll find that your apparel will soften, and fit & comfort will improve after washing - especially with bibs & shorts.
Machine wash cool, 86°F (30°C) with like colors: Cooler temps maintain better longevity for your apparel. Like colors, especially lights, will remain more vibrant when washed with like colors.
Use mild detergent. Do not bleach or dry clean: Strong detergents & bleach can break down the fibers and elastane in the garment, dramatically reducing its life.
Close all fastenings: this goes also for other garments mixed in with your cycling apparel. Velcro closures or clasps can catch on stitching or trim and damage your garments.
Lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry: Do not put your cycling apparel in the dryer. Even on low heat. Don’t do it. Heat can damage fabric, elastic and heat transfer logos very easily. Lycra (Elastane) is used throughout our garments to provide compression and support and is susceptible to damage from heat and can irreparably damage your apparel.
How do your vests fit?
Our vests are patterned for the riding position, with a tighter fit across the chest and an arm opening with a more forward position. This is intentional to reduce flapping and extra fabric across the chest while riding. When standing, the vest will feel tight across the chest and torso. This piece should fit tight over your jersey (with enough room for a long sleeve and base layer), and shouldn’t appear baggy. We select fabrics that have some elasticity to allow for freedom of movement even with a tailored fit to accommodate some range of fit within each size.
How do your jackets fit?
Similar to our vests, our jackets are patterned in the riding position, with a tight fit across the chest and arms with a more forward position. This is intentional to reduce flapping and extra fabric across the chest while riding. When standing, the jacket will feel tight across the chest, shoulders and torso. The arm length might appear long as well. However, the intended fit is tailored for on-the-bike positioning where the shoulders and torso no longer feel tight and the extra arm length hits the wrists in the appropriate spot. Constructed without extra fabric to flap around - it should fit tight over your jersey (with enough room for a long sleeve and base layer), but shouldn’t appear baggy. We select fabrics that have some elasticity to allow for freedom of movement even with a tailored fit to accommodate some range of fit within each size.
Our jerseys and bib shorts are intended to be form fit, providing compressive support, maximizing performance of the fabrics, and reducing fatigue and chafing. Due to the compressive nature of the fabrics, you will be able to fit into more than one size. Please use the charts below to help determine your optimum size:

I love love love this jacket. Well-fitting, well-performing. It’s been perfect in these late wet spring days.
This jacket is a good layering option for cold weather. It lets some wind in for breath-ability. I have an older model of the recon jacket and I thought this material was going to be more different from the recon than it is. The older recon jacket is much more windproof, but the thickness is the same. I expected this jacket to be thicker, like a softshell. That said, it is likely just as warm as any softshell. I also wish it had two front pockets like my recon does. Finally, I really do not like how tight the hips are and how loose the shoulders are. I am glad the shoulders are looser because they allow for more mobility than my older recon jacket, however the hip circumference is narrower than my recon. Both jackets are XL. I do not know how anyone with larger hips would fit this jacket. It would need to slide up more towards the waist. It is stretchy and for me it does stay down at my hips, but I was hoping for more room for layering, which I get on the top, but not the bottom. I also think this imbalance looks a little strange. All in all, it isn't a huge deal for me, as a person with wide shoulders and narrow hips but for someone with narrow shoulders and wide hips, it would not fit. Because I can't select both runs small and runs large, I am selecting "True to Size."

I love the color, fit and material of the jacket. I find the jackets run a little small; I take a Large in the jackets but a medium in jerseys.
I have to say I love this jacket! I think of it more like a cold weather jersey than a jacket though because all I wore underneath was a long sleeve merino wool undershirt. Together these two items kept me so comfortable in 46 degree weather and wind. The best part is the my perspiration was wicked away and didn't make me cold on dissents. I love the color and the ease of putting things in my pockets. I got a medium even though the size chart says I should be a small. My thought was I would wear more underneath and need the room. But I am happy with my medium as I can get things easily out of my pockets and it doesn't look too big. Lastly I also wore it on a day when the weather started as 42 degrees but warmed up to 65 and we had some climbs in the upper temps. With opening the jacket up completely and pushing up the sleeves I was not baking. A little warm but not too uncomfortable. I was happy about that because there was no place for me to put the jacket so I was happy that the change in temp still made this a good choice for the day.
I've been on several fat bike rides recently with this jacket. It's perfectly warm layered over the velocio merino long sleeve base layer I bought with it. I'm a small in the cycling jerseys but I initially ordered a medium thinking I would want some room to layer under. I returned it for a small because it felt a little big when I tried it on. On my last ride I realized I had trouble getting things (head light battery, a water bottle, and gloves) into the three back pockets because it was pretty snug against my skin, so in hindsight a medium might have been best.
