Men's Foundation Short

We took the same great fit and sought where we could make these shorts more affordable without compromising quality. The result is a short made from a lightweight, recycled fabric offering balanced compression and a unique opaque finish. We used the same leg gripper and trims as found on the Signature Bib Short but incorporated a simpler high-density chamois for excellent support in a slightly thinner form - ideal for shorter stints in the saddle.  A premium at a not-so-premium price, the Foundation offers a platform for a better riding experience.

    • 78% Recycled nylon fabric with Extra LifeLycra: balanced compression & breathability, comfort and longevity
    • High Gauge for excellent recovery and second skin fit
    • 5-Panel design: anatomically cut, compressive and supportive to enhance performance
    • Foundation chamois, modeled after our Signature chamois and developed with Elastic Interface, provides excellent mid-distance comfort & support
  • Fabric: 78% Recycled Polyamide / 22% Elastane
    Made in: Italy

  • Caring for your cycling gear properly will extend its life and maintain its performance, fit and quality. It’s important to consider these instructions carefully. While we stand behind the quality of our apparel, not adhering to these instructions will void our warranty against manufacturing & defects.

We strongly recommend washing your new gear before wearing it. You’ll find that your apparel will soften, and fit & comfort will improve after washing - especially with bibs & shorts.

Machine wash cool, 86°F (30°C) with like colors: Cooler temps maintain better longevity for your apparel. Like colors, especially lights, will remain more vibrant when washed with like colors.

Use mild detergent. Do not bleach or dry clean: Strong detergents & bleach can break down the fibers and elastane in the garment, dramatically reducing its life.

Close all fastenings: this goes also for other garments mixed in with your cycling apparel. Velcro closures or clasps can catch on stitching or trim and damage your garments.

Lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry: Do not put your cycling apparel in the dryer. Even on low heat. Don’t do it. Heat can damage fabric, elastic and heat transfer logos very easily. Lycra (Elastane) is used throughout our garments to provide compression and support and is susceptible to damage from heat and can irreparably damage your apparel.

Our jerseys and bib shorts are intended to be form fit, providing compressive support, maximizing performance of the fabrics, and reducing fatigue and chaffing. Due to the compressive nature of the fabrics, you will be able to fit into more than one size. Please use the charts below to help determine your optimum size.

  1. Find your weight along the top of the table.
  2. Look down the column to find your appropriate size.
  3. Each size has a height range based on weight.
  4. If you find that you are on the upper or lower end of height and weight for a given size, the garment will have more or less compression respectively.

Pretty nice shorts with one issue

By and large, these are very nice cycling shorts. The material is high-quality, very light and stretchy and fits like a second skin. The chamois is just perfect-- thin enough to be comfortable and non-intrusive, with just enough padding. It's very similar to my Pearl Izumi Pro shorts, which up 'til now have been my standby. Unfortunately, PI redesigned the short's waistband to drop seriously and embarrassingly low in the back, almost reaching to (how can I politely say this?) the proverbial buttcrack. My only gripe with the Velocio shorts is that the waistband is extremely flimsy-- it's made of very light material, thinner and flimsier than the rest of the shorts. The waistband is perhaps 2" wide, but because it's so thin, the top edge fold forward onto itself as soon as I reach for the handlebars. This is not uncomfortable; in fact, I don't notice it while riding. And the waistband does nothing to actually hold the shorts in place, since they are substantial and stretchy enough to stay perfectly in place anyway. But it's a bit annoying to feel the waistband folded over when I dismount and touch my belly. Maybe I'm just being OCD or something... but if Velocio had used a slightly heavier and stiffer waistband, these shorts would fit perfectly. I am 5'11", 195 lbs, and the XL fits me true to size.

Hi Andy. Thanks so much for your detailed review. Given your height/weight and the issue you are describing, you might actually be a size smaller, a Large. The more compressive material helps hold the shorts in place, and subsequently the chamois, to limit movement and rubbing or chafing. And a more compressive properly sized short will fit correctly in across your body and hold in place, including the waist band. We do offer a 30-day Signature Guarantee where you can try our products risk free and return or exchange for any reason. If you'd like to try a size L, please email us at service@velocio.cc and we'd be happy to help!
