Fire Red

A new take on a winter cycling glove, the Alpha borrows know-how from our Alpha System of Jacket + mid-layer which was inspired by high alpine mountaineering. The concept combines a our DVStretch Softshell outer layer for wind/water protection with Polartec's Alpha Direct inside for its high warmth-to-weight insulating qualities, in a newly developed 3D pattern. The result is our warmest glove, capable of temps below freezing, while maintaining a light low-bulk feel with unmatched dexterity.

  • Caring for your cycling gear properly will extend its life and maintain its performance, fit and quality. It’s important to consider these instructions carefully. While we stand behind the quality of our apparel, not adhering to these instructions will void our warranty against manufacturing & defects.

We strongly recommend washing your new gear before wearing it. You’ll find that your apparel will soften, and fit & comfort will improve after washing - especially with bibs & shorts.

Machine wash cool, 86°F (30°C) with like colors: Cooler temps maintain better longevity for your apparel. Like colors, especially lights, will remain more vibrant when washed with like colors.

Use mild detergent. Do not bleach or dry clean: Strong detergents & bleach can break down the fibers and elastane in the garment, dramatically reducing its life.

Close all fastenings: this goes also for other garments mixed in with your cycling apparel. Velcro closures or clasps can catch on stitching or trim and damage your garments.

Lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry: Do not put your cycling apparel in the dryer. Even on low heat. Don’t do it. Heat can damage fabric, elastic and heat transfer logos very easily. Lycra (Elastane) is used throughout our garments to provide compression and support and is susceptible to damage from heat and can irreparably damage your apparel.

    Alpha glove

I love everything Velocio, but the Alpha Glove while a great idea is poorly executed. It is built on the same pattern as the Zero glove, but while the Zero glove is roomy, the alpha glove is tight because the designers didn't take into account the alpha material. Being tight around teh fingers, even when sizing up equates to much less warmth than advertised. The Alpha gloves are great from say 40F to 45F but below 40F they provide little protection against the elements (i.e. tips of fingers are cold. Above 45 they become a touch too hot. In addition, as noted, when one takes them off, even when careful, the alpha material, especially the thumb bunches up and they are difficult to get back on. I think the glove needs a redesign with a shell and a free floating generous alpha liner. and to complete the system for temperatures below 40F, Velocio need to consider a windproof/waterproof lobster shell to put on top of the alpha glove to provide an extra layer of air.

We appreciate your detailed feedback you've given on the Alpha Glove and were glad you've been able to put this to the test. We're really sorry the garment isn't work out for you. If you end up deciding this isn't the glove for you, our Signature Guarantee has you covered, allowing for you to try out any garment for up to 30 days risk-free. If you have any issues with the return process please feel free to contact us at support@velocio.cc and we’d be happy to assist you!

These gloves are fantastic! I have tried dozens of gloves for cold weather riding and these take the cake!

    Not Good Value

I love Velocio and have a lot of the company's gear. Like some of the other reviewers, I have had good luck with other items in the Alpha line, particularly the jersey. However, in this application, I don't think Alpha insulation works. The liner isn't sufficiently attached to the exterior shell of the glove and so, when I warm up and take them off mid-ride, the liner tends to pull out of the fingers, even when I am really careful about removing them slowly and methodically. So, once my hands cool off again, getting them back on takes easily 30 seconds or more of riding time. I also find the cuff an awkward length and a bit loose fitting. Lastly, they're fairly warm, but under 25F I would need a liner and there isn't room, given the snug fit (and sizing up isn't an option for me). As usual, Velocio has nailed the clean aesthetics, but at $120 I think these are an easy one to pass on.

    Good - not great.

first off i LOVE 99% of the Velocio line. Read some of my other reviews. I also think Alpha is a rad product for cold weather riding. I have alpha jersey and merino alpha jersey as well. Both are top notch. The problem with this glove is what has been mentioned already - once on, you CANNOT remove them and expect to get them back on.... The alpha liner just wads up into a ball and you cant fight it. I was on a brisk ride this weekend and removed one glove to answer natures call. When I went to put it back on the thumb and 1-2 fingers were balled into the glove and I couldn't get it back. I was lucky I had a second set of nordic gloves with me.

    Alpha Glove

Great quality . Outer fabric is a nice change from most glove materials. Found to be warm to about 40 degrees . Alpha insulation inside is a game changer for warmth . Gloves run small and if you plan on a Liner double size up . Only complaint is getting alpha lining back into the appropriate fingers after washing or line drying . Fire red is awesome for visibility .
