Totally reimagined for 2019, the new Softshell jacket draws on over 5 years of development, refinement and testing to create a winter jacket versatile enough to meet the needs of the most demanding cyclist and cover a broad range of temps and conditions. We started with an entirely new pattern and fit, working to balance a trim, flap-free fit, with room to layer and full mobility and comfort.
We drew inspiration from touring motorcycle jackets and their shaped sleeves, articulated shoulders/chest and curved back. The result is a silhouette that effortlessly fits in the riding position.
We partnered with eVent, a leader in high performance membranes, to develop our proprietary three-layer softshell, incorporating their Direct Vent stretch membrane with Primaloft performance yarn backer and durable stretch woven and DWR treated face. The result is a truly breathable softshell that has the ability to manage moisture and keep the internal climate warm, but dry -- a critical equation for long winter miles. Designed for temperatures from freezing to 50F and capable of warding off all but the most torrential downpours, thanks to it’s 10K waterproof membrane, it’s a one-jacket solution to winter riding. And, by combining the Softshell with our Alpha Long sleeve, the two-piece system easily covers the bravest of souls comfortably down to the single digits (without the risk of breaking a sweat).
Caring for your cycling gear properly will extend its life and maintain its performance, fit and quality. It’s important to consider these instructions carefully. While we stand behind the quality of our apparel, not adhering to these instructions will void our warranty against manufacturing & defects.
We strongly recommend washing your new gear before wearing it. You’ll find that your apparel will soften, and fit & comfort will improve after washing - especially with bibs & shorts.
Machine wash cool, 86°F (30°C) with like colors: Cooler temps maintain better longevity for your apparel. Like colors, especially lights, will remain more vibrant when washed with like colors.
Use mild detergent. Do not bleach or dry clean: Strong detergents & bleach can break down the fibers and elastane in the garment, dramatically reducing its life.
Close all fastenings: this goes also for other garments mixed in with your cycling apparel. Velcro closures or clasps can catch on stitching or trim and damage your garments.
Lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry: Do not put your cycling apparel in the dryer. Even on low heat. Don’t do it. Heat can damage fabric, elastic and heat transfer logos very easily. Lycra (Elastane) is used throughout our garments to provide compression and support and is susceptible to damage from heat and can irreparably damage your apparel.
How do your vests fit?
Our vests are patterned for the riding position, with a tighter fit across the chest and an arm opening with a more forward position. This is intentional to reduce flapping and extra fabric across the chest while riding. When standing, the vest will feel tight across the chest and torso. This piece should fit tight over your jersey (with enough room for a long sleeve and base layer), and shouldn’t appear baggy. We select fabrics that have some elasticity to allow for freedom of movement even with a tailored fit to accommodate some range of fit within each size.
How do your jackets fit?
Similar to our vests, our jackets are patterned in the riding position, with a tight fit across the chest and arms with a more forward position. This is intentional to reduce flapping and extra fabric across the chest while riding. When standing, the jacket will feel tight across the chest, shoulders and torso. The arm length might appear long as well. However, the intended fit is tailored for on-the-bike positioning where the shoulders and torso no longer feel tight and the extra arm length hits the wrists in the appropriate spot. Constructed without extra fabric to flap around - it should fit tight over your jersey (with enough room for a long sleeve and base layer), but shouldn’t appear baggy. We select fabrics that have some elasticity to allow for freedom of movement even with a tailored fit to accommodate some range of fit within each size.
All styles are intended to be form-fitting, across the entire size range. Find a flexible tape measure and take your own body measurements.
Chest - Start by placing a measuring tape around the largest part of your chest. The tape should be flat but not too snug.
Waist - Your natural waist lies between your bottom ribs and hip bones, close to the navel. To measure, breathe deeply, relax your stomach and lie the tape measure flat around your waist, allowing for a ¼ inch of slack.
Hip - Measured around the widest point of your hips.
Model measurements - Shown wearing size M jersey / M bib short.

This jacket is amazing - literally, the best cold weather jacket I’ve ridden. Combine with a merino base layer and ride down to 30 degrees or wear it alone for more moderate cold conditions. Finally, I’ve combined it with the Alpha base layer and worn it down to under 20 degrees F and still comfortable. It’s like a forcefield for the elements! A bit tight in the chest, but I am barrel chested for most cyclists. 5’9”, 155lbs, 30 waist and 38 chest.
Amazing from start to finish. This jacket came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The fit is just as described on the website, which is always nice. I love the zippered chest pocket for stashing a few dollars, ID or credit card for the ride. Super cool touches like the reflective features on the back of the jacket, the two-way zipper and the pockets on the back. Top notch all around!
I don't generally do product reviews....I feel like most of them are just propaganda...here's my 'real' experience: Fit is great! I'm about 5'11", 155. The medium fits perfectly over a long sleeve base layer and long sleeve jersey. It's also worth noting that the first ride, it was windy and in the low 30s in Massachusetts. I typically ride pretty cold, but with this jacket, I had just a base layer and was warm! It's definitely a pricey piece, but for New England winters, it's a great piece.
The jacket performed to my expectations of a piece of velocio kit. Just enough for chilly morning and water resistant enough for light rain or heavy fog. If you want to layer heavy, you may want to size up.
I used the jacket during rides in temperatures in the low 40's and mild winds. The jacket kept me protected from the cool temperatures and definitely blocked out the wind. I liked the jacket being longer in the back as it did not allow any cool wind to enter from the back (or front) up inside. Very happy with jacket, materials, and performance. Although I thought the jacket runs small in size as the size I ended up using is XXL. I'm 6'2", 180 lbs. XXL size fits perfectly allowing room for layers.
